The project is a first step to initiate public art interventions…

The project is a first step to initiate public art interventions in Leh and the region of Ladakh. Indian Himalayas hold a rich cultural and traditional history which connects the natural forces to the people; the opportunities for artistic and cultural initiatives are limitless.

During 10 days, students from the Summer/Winter School (SWS) program of CEPT University, Ahmedabad, ventured in the narrow lanes of Leh old town, meeting the inhabitants and collecting anecdotes to narrate them through public art.

The stories are told to the public through the city itself; its streets become a medium of expression, its walls become a canvas. The artwork and installations offer a possibility of negotiation between the city, its inhabitants and casual visitors. The Public Art Intervention project seeks to raise awareness on environmental and socio-cultural issues which are a concern in Leh and resonate worldwide.
